To celebrate Earth Day, I have compiled a list of popular books (in environmentally-friendly Kindle format, of course) and DVD videos to remind us how fragile our environment really is and some steps we can all do to make it better. Owning an eBook reader like the Kindle 2 is just one small step in the right direction to save a few trees. Help do your part to make our planet a better place. Thanks.
I also included a Planet Earth trailer for your viewing enjoyment.
Now available for the first time ever in eBook format & the Kindle Store, J.R.R. Tolkien epic novels! Get lost in middle earth with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the prequel called The Hobbit. These masterpieces should be in everyone's Kindle collection.
The purchase of an Amazon Kindle 2 includes a one year manufacturer's warranty for a defective device. The standard warranty does not cover accidental damage but this is typical for most electronic devices.
Amazon does offer an extended warranty that adds an additional year (2 years total) plus it includes accidental coverage in case you drop and break your Kindle 2. This warranty must be purchased within 30 days of buying your Kindle 2 and it costs $65.
Did you know that you can get the additional year of coverage for free?
All you have to do is buy your Kindle 2 with your American Express (Amex) card. One of the benefits of using your Amex card is an automatic extended warranty that doubles the standard manufacturer's warranty up to one year (see terms and conditions). They also include a 90 day accidental coverage for user mishaps. This applies to all Amex purchases, not just a Kindle 2!
If you don't have an Amex card you can still opt for the Amazon Kindle Extended Warranty or buy one from a third party provider called Square Trade. They provide a 3 year warranty on electronic devices and has an optional accidental coverage plan.
Buying an Amazon Kindle 2 is no small investment. In today's economic recession, most shoppers are thinking twice before making a purchase. Sometimes a little incentive can be the deciding factor and Amazon wants to help. The cost of a new Kindle 2 is $359.00.
If you apply for their Amazon Visa Rewards Card and get approved (usually less than 1 minute), then buy the Kindle 2 as your first purchase, you will save $30 automatically. You will also receive 6 rewards points for each dollar spent at Amazon (for the first 90 days). You will then have more than half the points needed to get a $25 gift card.
If you already have an Amazon Visa card, you may not be eligible for the $30 but you will still earn rewards points.
NOTE: Always read the terms and conditions before applying for any credit card.
I was contacted yesterday by Zack S. (grad student at John Hopkins University) who needs your help. He is asking people to fill out this Kindle Research Survey for a project he is working on about ebook technologies. Please take a few minutes to help him out and complete his survey. Thanks.
