Good cover

After reading all the reviews on this item, I decided to buy it anyway. It's been a few months now since I bought this cover and I am very happy with it. It's not bulky and fits nice and snug on the device. The cover does what it's suppose to do. It protects your Kindle from getting wet. That said, it makes sense that it does not have an access hole for charging since it would make it vulnerable to liquid exposures. As far as the navigation stick goes, I can use it by pushing below it to navigate up, push above to navigate down, etc. The page buttons are easily pushed and the keyboard is easily accessible through the thick plastic cover. While it is true that you have to open the top to turn on the device, again, it makes sense in order to keep the Kindle completely covered. So, I don't mind having to open it to turn the device on. It's a minor thing in order to protect my investment.
We recently took 3 one week trips and I took the Kindle with me. The cover worked perfectly when I took my Kindle to the poolside. Some water splashed on it and all I had to do was wipe it with a towel. No damage. At a coffee shop, my husband spilled over coffee and again all I did was wipe it off without worrying about damage to the device.
The cover was great and I am very happy I bought it!

don't bother

A ZIPLOCK baggie does the trick just fine... provides all the same dust, moisture and sand protection claimed by this case, and the buttons are all easily accessible and totally usable. Plus you can use it over any other case you buy which does protect against drops and bumps. May not be as pretty but at only pennies a bag, you can always customize with stickers or skins :) save your money.

Perfect for reading near water, but not as the regular case

by S. Yang from London, UK on 2009-09-27
I purchased this case for my kindle 2, and all the reviews are true. This case is made of a soft foamy material with a soft plastic cover that makes it difficult to use the joystick. It does not allow access to the on/off and volume buttons on the side and you have to take it out of the case to charge it. The case is also not waterproof since it is made of foamy material, but it does offer protection against drops of water, sand, and wetness from your hands if you're reading near the beach or pool, which is what I purchased it for and the only reason you should buy the case. The soft plastic distorts the reading screen slightly, so there is no way you'd want to use this as your regular protection case.

good protection for pool/beach, bad functionality

by wellread from San Francisco, CA United States on 2009-09-15
This cover did indeed protect my Kindle from water, sand, and sunscreen while I was vacationing at a beach resort. On the downside, the 5-way control toggle button did not work very well while in the cover (I tend to use this button a lot), you cannot access the on/off switch on the top of the kindle without unvelcroing the cover and taking the unit out partway, and the thin cover offers little protection for the kindle while traveling. The cover also fit very snuggly, making it inconvenient to take the kindle in/out of the cover. Bottom line: this cover is fine for casual beach/pool-side reading, especially if you do not use the toggle button often. I would not make this my only jacket, however, due to the lack of protection and other reasons I stated above. Now that M-edge has recently introduced the Leisure jacket, I will buy that and retire the OCTO Splash proof case. From its description, the Leisure jacket appears to address the shortfalls of the OCTO splash proof case - - but I'll test drive it first and let you know if it's worth buying over the OCTO case.
