Happy Halloween! Do you want my Kindle treat?
Happy Halloween from eReadNow.com!
In the "spirit" of the season, I have decided to give away a nice Kindle "treat" to one lucky reader. My treat is a brand new OCTO Faux Leather Slip Cover in Dark Brown for an Amazon Kindle 2 eBook Reader. It's scary to think how popular this cover was to the point that it is now unavailable on Amazon and may never been seen again.
The brave soul who will win this Treat must simply add a comment below letting me know what is their favorite scary novel.
Details: We will randomly choose a winner and will contact them via email for their mailing address. The contest will run till midnight of November 2nd (EST) at which point the comments section will close. This contest is open to anyone in the world (now that the Kindle 2 is sold Internationally). Winner will need to supply me with a mailing address for shipping...nothing else required.
Good Luck for those brave enough to enter. Boohaahaa!

Pretty well anything by Stephen King. If I must choose, I choose The Shining. It is one of those books that is compulsively readable and yet I kept closing it because I REALLY didn’t want to harrow myself any more–and yet I read it because I wanted to know what came next…

Stephen King’s “The Shining” was really the only book that I can remember reading that actually had me scared to go to sleep at night. So much better than the movie, it actually feels like 2 different stories.

The true crime novels scare me the most. I read Mind Hunter long ago and it still scares the crap out of me!

The Mist by Stephen King freaks me out.

Communion by Whitley Strieber. I don’t think it’s supposed to be a scary book but I couldn’t even finish it and didn’t sleep for weeks. On the other hand, I own and have read everything written by Stephen King. IT was my favorite.

I read Hound of the Baskervilles when I was young. It scared the daylights out of me. I see it is a freebie at Amazon now. I’ll have to try it again.

“No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood for eighty years, and might stand for eighty more, Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.”
– “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson

Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. I read this when I was 16 and didn’t sleep for weeks. I’m now a lot older (31 years older) and it still scares me! I think of it every time I leave my windows open at night.

I love anything by Stephen King or Poe. They are just wonderous story tellers.

i think it’s all in the timing. The first Stephen King novel I read was Salem’s Lot and it took me a long time before I’d read another king novel. There may be scarier novels out there but I’m older and they don’t bother me as much.
Therefore Salem’s Lot was the scariest.

I am not a fan of King. I do, however, read my collection of Poe every once in a while. I’m not too into scary, I’m more of a sci-fi chick

I am not a scary novel fan. Scariest I can think of that I have read is Poe’s beating heart (and I knew that before I read it.)

I like Preston & Child’s Thunderhead. Thanks!

The Shining is the scariest book I have ever read. It was much scarier than the movie–being bludgeoned to death–ooh.

Definitely “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson. Read it in high school and it scared me silly! And “Helter Skelter” was the scariest true book I’ve read – gave me a few sleepless nights.
Thanks for the contest!

Grimm’s fairy tales (or perhaps The Grinch). Nothing scarier than to be young enough to believe that little old women in woods might be eating children (or wolves disguised as them) or that someone might steal Christmas.
Nov 02, 2009
The “Uninvited” by Dorthy Macardle, “The Turn of the Screw” by Henry James, and “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson are my top three. All three are great and scary ghost stories. If I have to choose, I guess I’d go with “The Turn of the Screw”.

My favorite scary novel is The Shining by Stephen King.

I liked “Heart Shaped Box” by Joe Hill. That book actually gave me goosebumps. Joe Hill is Stephen Kings son. I wish he had more books like this one.

‘The Stand’ by Steven King – the master of all things scary!
I also thought the book Coma was pretty scary at the time.

“Christine” by S. King. A King novel ‘starring’ a Plymouth Fury. How could it not be my favorite? lYou know, God drives a Mopar, right? You’ve seen the reference to God, in his Fury.
Unfortunately, I can’t spend money on King books anymore, though. A few years ago, he ‘said’ that if you applied to his office and waited till you got to the top of the waiting list, he’d autograph two books for anyone. So, I did. A couple of years later, I got a card in the mail that basically said, “Neener, neener, neener. I’m Stephen King and I don’t have to do it.” Supposedly, the card was signed by King, but the ‘signature’ was only about a third of an inch long. Obviously, a mechanical reproduction.
I’m sure it doesn’t hurt King any, but I don’t spend money on his stuff anymore.

The whole “Day of Evil” series by Melanie Wells is really really creepy. Definitely page turners.
Nov 02, 2009
David Morrell’s Creepers about urban spelunking was the scariest book 1) because it was different than his usual intrigue style and 2) you never saw the scary parts coming. Recommended for beach/daylight reading only.

Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot” is my favorite.
